How to play Americano
A social rotation where partners shuffle every round, every game counts toward one leaderboard, and the schedule stays fair without spreadsheets or arguing over pairings.
What is Americano?
Americano is a padel (or pickleball-friendly) tournament format built around a fixed squad. Each round, players are grouped into temporary pairs that face another pair on each court. After that round finishes, pairs break up and everyone gets new teammates according to a rotation pattern.
The goal is variety: over the event you partner with different people and compete against everyone else, without manually reshuffling teams between games.
Points are earned individually, but you play in pairs each game. Your score for the game is added to your personal total.
Scoring each game
Fixed point pool
Each match uses a total you choose (often 24 or 32). The two teams split that total based on the result.
Team result = personal points
Whatever your team earns, both players receive that amount toward the tournament leaderboard.
Champion by total
After all rounds, the player with the highest sum wins. Tie-breakers use games played and name order in this app.
Multiple courts & rounds
You set how many players and how many courts run at the same time. The app builds a full schedule: round 1 lines up everyone, you enter scores, then round 2 remixed partners appear automatically — same flow until every round is complete.
Odd number of players
Any squad size from 4–32 is supported (up to 8 courts at once), including odd counts. With an odd number of players, one virtual sit-out keeps the rotation balanced each cycle so real players take turns sitting while the schedule still advances. In this app that is handled behind the scenes so you only score courts that actually play.

Ending a match early
If you run out of time before all rounds are played, use the End Early button on the match page. Instead of leaving the leaderboard unfair — where players who happened to sit out more have fewer games and therefore fewer points — the app automatically compensates everyone.
For each game a player missed compared to the player with the most games played, they receive half the maximum points per game as a bonus. Players who already played the most games keep their exact score untouched.
Games are played to 32 pts. Most players have played 3 games, but you only played 2. You get +16 pts (32 ÷ 2) added for the one missing game — the same as a neutral result.
A preview shows every player's adjusted score before you confirm, so you can see exactly what will change.
